Rockville remix

Rockville, MD    2021/2024

This multi-phased project involved the reimagining of the first floor and Primary Suite of this Maryland home. We often analyze an existing floor plan and, in collaboration with our clients, discuss discrepancies between family lifestyle and the limitations of the existing rooms within a home. Sometimes, we find the spaces allocated don’t reflect the way modern families live. This is especially the case in historic homes, but is even prevalent in homes built in the 70s and 80s. In this case, in order to better serve this family’s lifestyle, the dining room was transformed into the kitchen, the kitchen became the mudroom/laundry and the living room became the new dining room. The result is a better flow from the garage into a new mudroom and a direct connection between an enlarged kitchen and open family room.
The Primary Bathroom was opened up physically, by removing walls and soffits, and visually, by adding strategic lighting. A double white oak vanity and coordinating finishes keep the space bright and fresh while a new large shower with black, white and gray tones create a contemporary elegant look.
